Dietitian Review of MIOME IB-ONE Probiotic – Does It Work For Constipation & IBS? (2025)
- Uncategorised
Welcome to my MIOME Review (2025) — your complete guide to whether this product is really worth your time and money. If you’ve been struggling with gut health and are tired of trying supplements that make big promises but deliver little, you’re in the right place.
In this MIOME Review, I’ll break down exactly what MIOME is, what ingredients it uses, and most importantly, whether the science supports its claims.
We’ll look closely at MIOME’s flagship product, IB-ONE™, which contains the clinically studied strain Bacillus coagulans Unique IS-2™ (MTCC 5260) — a probiotic shown to improve bowel regularity and ease IBS symptoms.
By the end of this review, you’ll know how the product works, whether it’s safe, and if it’s truly worth investing in for better gut health.

What is ‘MIOME’?
MIOME is a US based company who are dedicated to producing products for gut health which contain scientifically proven ingredients in exactly the correct formats to work.
MIOME is committed to the provision of quality products with a strong ethos in science.
At present, MIOME have two products;
- IB-PRO™ – Unique IS-2™ MTCC 5260 & Lactospore® MTCC 5856
- IB-ONE™- Bacillus coagulans Unique IS-2™️ (MTCC 5260)
Can MIOME help constipation?
A remarkable 2020 clinical study has shown a number of constipation benefits for those taking Bacillus coagulans Unique IS-2 (the microbial strain found in MIOME’s IB-ONE).
What I love about this study is that it used proper clinical methodology – it was randomised, double-blind, and placebo-controlled. And it included 100 adults with functional constipation, which is a strong population size.

After just 4 weeks of daily use, the strain in IB-ONE produced the following results that I can only describe as remarkable:
- Bowel Movement Frequency: From approximately 1 bowel movement per week to nearly 6 per week!
- Normal Stool Consistency: This one really gets me. 98% of participants achieved normal stool consistency (Bristol Stool Scale types 3-4) by the end of the four weeks. At baseline? Zero percent had normal stools. Think about that. Nearly everyone went from constipated, hard stools to normal, comfortable bowel movements.
- Painful Defecation: Reduced by 74%. In other words, a lot less dreading going to the toilet. And much less pain and straining.
- Abdominal Discomfort: Dropped by a whopping 84%. Participants got relief from that constant uncomfortable sensation that had been affecting their entire day.
- Incomplete Evacuation: That awful feeling that you haven’t fully emptied your bowels – the one that leaves you uncomfortable and bloated? Decreased by 64%.
And the improvements became statistically significant by week 3, with even better results by week 4.
Can MIOME Help IBS?
Again, Bacillus coagulans Unique IS-2 (the strain of microbe found in MIOME’s IB-ONE) has been extensively researched in IBS.
As a dietitian who specialises in digestive health, I’ve spent years staying current on probiotic research. I know what good research looks like – and what separates the evidence-based from the marketing fluff.
The gold standard is systematic reviews and meta-analyses – basically, studies that analyse data from multiple studies, not just one. This gives you a much more reliable picture of whether something actually works.
And here’s what I discovered about Bacillus coagulans Unique IS-2 (the strain in IB-ONE):
- Ranked highest for symptom relief, global symptoms, and straining in a 2022 network meta-analysis of 43 studies with over 5,500 patients
- Significantly reduced abdominal pain in a 2021 meta-analysis
- Identified as 1 of only 4 strains that significantly improve both global IBS symptoms AND abdominal pain specifically (2023 review)
- Named as the most effective strain for IBS relief (alongside another B. coagulans strain, MTCC 5856 which is found in MIOME’s IB-PRO) in a 2023 systematic review and meta-analysis of 81 RCTs involving over 9,000 participants

When multiple independent research teams, analysing thousands of patients across dozens of studies, all come to a similarly positive conclusion about a probiotic strain – that really stands out for me.
Given all this, I was not surprised when I learnt that IB-ONE is featured in the AEProbio Clinical Guide to Probiotic Products (Page 2) with specific indications for both IBS symptoms and constipation.
In case you haven’t heard of it – AEProbio is one of the leading resources used by clinicians to make probiotic recommendations in their practice.
Do I Recommend MIOME?
So we’ve got a well-studied strain with impressive clinical results.
But before we recommend any probiotic, it needs to pass an evaluation checklist. I’ve narrowed it down to 6 critical questions and I’ll now walk you through them and show you how MIOME measures up against them:
- Does it have a transparent formula? This is my first question because if a product won’t tell you exactly what’s in it and how much, you can’t verify anything. On this point, if you look at their supplement facts panel, MIOME tells you exactly what’s in each capsule and how much – no “proprietary blends” hiding the actual amounts. You get exactly 2 billion CFU of Unique IS-2. Which leads me straight to my next question:
- Is it dosed according to the clinical studies? This is where transparency really matters. The studies we looked at above, that showed those impressive results, used 2 billion CFU per day. That’s exactly what MIOME provides in every capsule / serve.
- Does it only contain strain(s) that have been studied in clinical trials? Here’s where a lot of products go wrong. They’ll add prebiotics, digestive enzymes, or other active ingredients that weren’t part of the clinical research. IB-ONE contains exclusively the Unique IS-2 strain that’s been studied in randomised, placebo-controlled trials for IBS and constipation. No additional active ingredients, no unproven add-ins that might compromise efficacy – just what was actually shown to work in the studies.
- Is it in the right delivery form? This might seem minor, but it actually matters. MIOME formulated IB-ONE as a capsule – a clean, pure delivery form that resembles what’s used in clinical research. Meanwhile these days many other probiotics are formulated as gummies, which might seem convenient, but they typically contain sugar alcohols, added sugars, and/or high-FODMAP ingredients like inulin that can actually trigger GI symptoms.
- Has it been third-party tested? When you’re taking something daily for your gut health, you need to know it’s free from contaminants that could cause harm. MIOME has their products independently tested for allergens (gluten, dairy, soy etc.), heavy metals (lead, mercury, arsenic etc.), and microbiological contaminants (harmful bacteria, yeast, mold etc.). And they actually publish the results, which gives you real transparency about what you’re putting in your body.
- Can you try the probiotic to see if it works for you? Or in other words – is there a money back guarantee with a realistic trial window? The reason why this is important is because probiotics aren’t one-size-fits-all, and what works for one person might not work for another. So I was happy to see that MIOME offers an 8-week satisfaction program, which gives you enough time to actually see if it works for you. In fact, clinical studies showed people experienced benefits within 2 weeks, with most improvements by week 4. So 8 weeks is a realistic timeframe to assess whether this probiotic is helping your symptoms. If it’s not working for you, you can get a full refund.
MIOME Review: Does MIOME make symptoms worse?
No, MIOME does not make symptoms worse.
The good news is that the research previously mentioned in this post has shown no adverse reactions for people taking MIOME IB-One. The product is also low FODMAP which means it contains no potential IBS triggers.
IBS sufferers do often feel anxious about trying new supplements. When my clients are feeling anxious I advise them to start slowly and build up their confidence. So it is fine to start with 1 capsule every other day and then work up to a daily intake if this makes you feel more comfortable.
The additional benefit of MIOME IB-ONE™ is that it is also gluten, soy and dairy free which is great if you have allergies. And it has also been third party tested which means you can safely trust that this product only contains what it states on its box.
How to take MIOME
One of the huge benefits of MIOME’s IB-ONE™ is that you only need to take it once a day and unlike other products, it does not need to be refrigerated.
Simply take 1 capsule per day to mimic the clinical study protocols and receive 2 billion CFUs of Unique IS-2.

What if your MIOME product does not work?
Of course you will be wondering if you should risk paying out for yet another supplement. But MIOME really understands their customer and they know that most people with digestive issues have wasted a lot of time and money before.
That is why they offer a full refund if you are not happy with your product.
All they ask is that you try it for 8 weeks before making that decision and this is because MIOME IB-One will take time to work, it is not a quick fix. Once you submit your request for a refund, it will be processed within 72 hours.
Does MIOME Ship Outside of the US?
MIOME does not currently ship outside of the US (yet). But you can use a cost-effective service like shop and ship or MyUS.
These services work by providing you with a US address to receive parcels at. You can then pay an additional fee to have the parcel sent to your home address, wherever you are in the world.
Personally, I have been using Shop and Ship for the last 7 years as we have been in the UAE and it is amazing!
