“This course was one of the most thorough IBS-related courses that I have taken. Andrea and Kirsten go well beyond the basic information usually provided for IBS management, giving a well-rounded overview of appropriate diet and non-diet interventions for different types of patients. This course gives RDs the tools to manage any IBS patient, including those with more complex presentation of symptoms and other health considerations.

I enjoyed the Dietitian’s IBS Course and thought that it offered a really good holistic approach for Dietitians. It was very thorough & provided in depth background evidence based information along with experience and practical information to use. I would recommend it to anyone thinking of increasing or updating their knowledge of IBS.

take control 3

I signed up for the Take Control programme three months ago and it has been the best thing I have done to help understand and manage my IBS. I have been constipated pretty much all my life (I’m 56 so that’s an awful long time) and was diagnosed with IBS in my early twenties. The Take Control programme has helped me understand why my gut behaves in the way it does and make changes to my lifestyle and diet to reduce symptoms and manage flare ups better.

Working with Kirsten has been an absolute life changer. After dealing with stomach issues for years I can finally say that I am in charge of my IBS. There is still a long way to go, but I am optimistic, as so much has already improved in 3 months. She has reminded me that change doesn’t happen overnight, and if I keep my head in the game, IBS will only play a minor role in my life. So please, for your own sake, contact Kirsten if you are struggling with IBS –  I know she will change your life!

The take control programme has worked well for me. It’s probably taken me longer to get through it than the average person as I was travelling for a bit at the start of the year. Lockdown actually helped me to power through my reintroductions so I guess there’s a silver lining there somewhere!

As you know I tried the low fodmap diet before without much success. At the time there was little to no emphasis put on other aspects such as the importance of enough sleep, fibre intake, movement, stress etc. I’ve actually found that I don’t have that many food intolerances and it’s more to do with the reasons mentioned above. For me sleep, meditation and movement are a priority now and if I slack my gut doesn’t be long letting me know! 😂

I liked the goal setting and weekly win aspect of the course as it made you look for a positive, particularly on the weeks where things weren’t going so well.
Thanks a lot for everything, it’s so nice to be in a place where I’m not constantly bloated or in pain. And when I do get a flare up now, I know it’s temporary and can put measures in place to help.

Roisin Breslin | Take Control Program | June 2020

When I was diagnosed with IBS my G.P and consultant really gave me very little information, I was kind of told I had it and to go and follow the low FODMAP diet.  This actually turned out to be much harder than I had anticipated.

I’m not going to lie when I heard about the take control programme, I thought it was just another person trying to make some money.  I was very sceptical about signing up and hesitated lots.  I messaged Kirsten and she explained it a bit more to me and then I attended the webinar and decided to give it ago. Northing ventured nothing gained as you would say.

It most definitely was the right thing to do!  I have found the programme to be really informative and easy to follow.  It is laid out and explained to you in a way which is easy to complete, a step by step approach. The handouts are good and helpful and are also easy to understand. The more you put into the programme the better the outcome is.  I have worked through all the phases and have found out my triggers and tolerance levels to foods which is great as it means I can eat a much more varied diet.

I have worked with many other dieticians but I honestly feel that Kirsten goes above and beyond for the group.  She is passionate about helping people with IBS and has a much better understanding as she has IBS herself.  She is full of helpful, evidence-based information which is actually proven to help.  She interacts within the group, as well as the other members which often gives lots of helpful advice and suggestions.

I am really glad I happened to find this programme and even though I’ve still got hurdles to cross I have a much better understanding of IBS and its multifactorial aspects.  I would 100% recommend this programme to anyone suffering with IBS as it certainly has helped changed my life with IBS.

Erika Pottinger | Take Control Group Program

I have recommended the Take Control programme to so many people.  The length of the modules, the downloads, the setup is fantastic. They are really easy to follow and understand.

I tried the Low FODMAP diet on my own a few years ago but I clearly did not follow it well enough.  After the first 5 weeks I found it really easy to follow the diet. The structure is so clear that you cannot go wrong.  I really would not change anything.

I hit a stumbling block on week 5, I did not feel like I was making any improvement, got myself low about it and thought about dropping everything.  But I made myself post on the group asking for help, posted my food diaries and Kirsten and the other members were so fantastic.  I made an improvement thanks to the support and suggestions and plowed on.

Thanks to the Take Control programme I feel so much more knowledgeable.  If I had a bad tummy straight after a meal I always blamed an ingredient in that meal.  Now I know what the reactions timings mean.  My 11+ Type 6 & 7 BMs stopped, I have enjoyed talking to other members of the Take Control Facebook group and I have tried more different foods from ingredients listed in Kirsten’s documents.

Rachel Sheratt | Take Control Program | June 2020

‘I was first diagnosed with IBS-C in 2008.  Both my GP and consultant’s approach was to increase dietary fibre and take prescribed laxatives.  These helped to an extent, but didn’t address the bigger picture.
I never experienced complete relief but thought that was just the way things were going to be.  I had flare-ups on and off over the years with no idea what was causing them.  I’d heard of the Low FODMAP diet but never tried it, as it seemed complicated and intimidating.

I came across Kirsten on Instagram and I can honestly say the Take Control Programme has changed my life.  It feels like a more holistic approach in that it looks at the person as a whole – diet, FODMAPs, fibre, water intake, daily movement and stress – and how to manage these on a daily basis.

I no longer fear my symptoms because I can control them.  I won’t have to avoid my favourite foods because I know how much I can have without them causing any problems.

I found Kirsten extremely supportive.  Having access to her, and the other members of the programme through the Facebook group, made the process of FODMAP elimination and reintroduction so much easier to follow. Knowing there are so many other people going through the same process made me realise I wasn’t alone!

I’ve had a total turnaround with my symptoms and I’m only sorry I hadn’t come across Kirsten sooner – I would recommend her to anyone!’
